August 9th Meeting & Cruise
Sunny skies and mild temperatures greeted us as we met for lunch at 11:00 AM at Steve's Steak House in Blairsville, GA. We were pleased to meet and welcome new members Larry & Tammy Murray, with their beautiful 2008 Coupe, into the CGBRM. We were also pleased to see Tom & Mary Kitchens again because we had not seen them since our cruise to the Corvette Expo in Sevierville, TN several months ago. After lunch, we gathered in the parking lot to begin our cruise to Fort Mountain State Park located off Hwy 52 between Ellijay and Chatsworth. After surviving a testy walk on the trail to the observation platform, enjoyed the breathtaking views available from the deck. At least the trail was downhill back to the Corvettes and after some bottled water we continued on Hwy 52 to Chatsworth and then traveled north on Hwy 411 until we turned east on Hwy 74 to visit the Ocoee Whitewater Visitors Center. The Ocoee River was flowing fast as rafters enjoyed themselvesas we manuvered through the gorge. We spend about 30 minutes at the OcoeeVisitor's Center before heading east on 74 before turning south on Hwy 68 to Copperhill, TN/McCayesville, GA -- the twin city divided by the state line of Tennessee and Georgia. The Gollob's turned onto Hwy 5 in McCayesville to travel through Blue Ridge back home and the rest of us returned to Blairsville to visit the Home Town Pizza Parlor. We had another safe day of traveling in the Corvettes and 'enjoying the Corvette experience'.
