April 14th Meeting & Cruise
The day began with a threat of severe weather but we managed to have lunch and complete the cruise without experiencing any of the heavy rain or high winds. We had another good lunch and meeting at the Cookie Jar Restaurant and began the cruise around 12:30 PM. We traveled Hwy 129S to Hwy 180 and then turned south to cruise the Richard B. Russell Scenic Highway which is always a wonderful experience. We continued through Robertstown (near Helen) and turned east onto Hwy. 358 to Hwy 197S to the Mark of the Potter. We spent about 30 minutes at the Mark of the Potter before running the backroads to Tiger, GA to visit the Tiger Mountain Vineyards. We were welcomed by vineyard owners John and Martha Ezzard as they introduced their newest release to the public. The event was catered by a couple cooking tasty salmon or ham crepes that complemented the new wine. From Tiger, we traveled to Clayton only to find The Cottage Door (pastry and coffee) had gone out of business. From Clayton we cruised back to Young Harris as everyone went their own way.
