August 11th Meeting & Cruise Attendance for the lunch and cruise was great as the weather cooperated and we enjoyed a wonderful cruise into the North Carolina mountains. During lunch we wecomed new members Greg & Kathleen Brown from Jefferson, GA and Rick and Cathy Webb from Nicholson, GA. We finished lunch around 12:30 PM and began our cruise on Hwy76 East to Young Harris where we took Hwy 66 to Warne, NC and then drove Old Hwy 64 into Cherokee county where we picked up Hwy 141 to Marble, NC. We turned north on Hwy 129/74 and continued through the Nantahala Gorge. Then left on Hwy 28W for some scenic views as we drove to the Fontana Village Resort for a short pit-stop. We then drove Hwy 28's Hellbender section with its beautiful views of the lake and river as we negotiated the curves to Deal's Gap. We arrived at Deal's Gap to find the parking area full of motorcycles. We wound our way through the motorcyles and parked in the grassy area near the Tree of Shame (full of parts from crashed motorcycles). We spent about 30 minutes at Deal's Gap before starting the trip back to the Sonic Restaurant in Murphy, NC. As we drove toward Murphy, NC I received several phone calls aksing if we could get the Group together for dinner instead of having ice cream. We stopped at the Sonic and after a shor discussion decided to have dinner at the Murphy House Restaurant where they serve a chinese and country buffet with deserts -- all you can eat! We enjoyed dinner and then went our separate paths.
