December 8th Meeting, Cruise & Toys Delivery

CGBRM members in attendance enjoyed a nice lunch and some social time before beginning the cruise to deliver the toys to the Towns County Sheriff's Office. Lunch ended around 12:30 PM and that left us with some cruising time before our scheduled 1:45 PM meeting time at the Towns County Sheriff's Office on Hwy 339 in Hiawassee. We decided to take a cruise through the mountains and began by driving on Hwy 129s to Hwy 180 and then turning south onto the Richard B. Russell Scenic Hwy. We then drove north on Hwy 75 over Unicoi Mountain to Hwy 76 and through Hiawassee to Hwy 339. It was a beautiful day for a drive with moderate temperatures and an overcast sky as Jeremy Clough led seven Corvettes into the parking lot at the sheriff's office. Vicki Ellis was there to meet us along with Sgt. Brandon Hogsed and Deputy Mark Henderson. After some introductions we unloaded the toys and took them into the building. When I first contacted Vicki about a week ago she had 75 kids signed up to receive toys for Christmas. As of Saturday the number had increased to 100 plus kids to receive toys from the Towns County 'Empty Stocking Sheriff's Fund'. With the delivery of the toys and taking photos completed we drove to the Southern Tree Plantation located about 5 miles south of Blairsville. A short time was spent touring the main building that was loaded with Christmas decorations and displays along with a small refreshment booth serving hot cider and coffee.  Our group then went outside to watch people select and cut their special Christmas tree, have it machine wrapped, and then loaded onto their car or van for the trip home. Our visit to the tree farm ended with a nice hayride through the property and I didn't see a Christmas tree on any of the Corvettes as they left the parking lot.

We were pleased to have new members Paul and Cathy Henry join us in their recently purchased 1982 Collector's Edition Corvette. We enjoyed their company and hope they become regular participants.
